Erwin Technical College

Erwin Technical College is a public postsecondary technical college of Hillsborough County Public Schools at 2010 E. Hillsborough Avenue in Tampa, with roots tracing to 1925 and the Brewster School; it became Hillsborough County's first adult area vocational-technical center in 1979, named for David G. Erwin. The college offers 22 career certificate programs plus ESOL and GED adult education, accredited by the Council on Occupational Education, with dental assisting additionally accredited by the American Dental Association's CODA. Florida residents pay $2.92 per clock hour (the published 2023-24 rate), which keeps full programs remarkably affordable — cosmetology (1,200 hours, 12 months) totals $4,779, welding (1,050 hours, 11 months) $4,220, dental assisting (1,230 hours, 13 months) $4,450, surgical technology (1,330 hours, 13 months) $5,478, and the 1,800-hour automotive program $5,800 — and 88% of full-time beginning students receive financial aid, bringing the average net price to $3,467.
