Atlanta School of Massage

Atlanta School of Massage permanently closed on September 4, 2024, citing declining enrollment; a teach-out agreement let remaining students finish at the International School of Skin, Nailcare and Massage Therapy in Sandy Springs. Founded in 1980, it was the first massage therapy school in Georgia and operated as a privately owned career school, accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) from 1988 and certified by the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission. Its final campus was a two-story, 28,000-square-foot freestanding building at 2 Dunwoody Park South in the Dunwoody Park area of Atlanta, with ten 1,000-square-foot classrooms and eighteen private treatment rooms used for a public student clinic. The school taught a single 750-clock-hour massage therapy diploma program, exceeding Georgia's 500-hour licensing minimum, offered as a full-time day schedule of roughly eight months or a part-time weeknight schedule of about thirteen to fifteen months with alternating Saturdays. Coursework covered anatomy and physiology by body region, health sciences, a medical massage course including oncology massage and manual lymphatic drainage, and a clinic internship with real clients. Graduates qualified to sit for the MBLEx; the school reported a 65% MBLEx pass rate for 2022. Published 2024 pricing was $12,701 tuition plus $994 in books and fees ($13,695 total). The school participated in federal Title IV aid and collaborated with Emory University's neurology department on research into neuromuscular therapy for Parkinson's disease. It was part of the ASM Wellness group alongside the Atlanta Institute of Aesthetics.
