Apex Technical School

Apex Technical School is a nonprofit trade school in Long Island City, Queens, operated as a member of The Fedcap Group, with a branch campus at 210 East 43rd Street in Midtown Manhattan. Founded in 1961, the school has trained New Yorkers in the skilled trades for over six decades and enrolled about 1,400 students in fall 2024. Six certificate programs - electrical and advanced electrical, air conditioning and refrigeration, plumbing and pipefitting, combination welding, automotive service and repair, and construction and building skills - each run 900 clock hours, completed in as little as seven months; the school also offers culinary arts and custodial training courses. Apex maintains an open admission policy — applicants without a high school diploma or GED may qualify by entrance exam — and runs day and evening schedules, and reports a 78% graduation rate for the 2021-22 cohort with a 15:1 student-instructor ratio. Tuition and fees were $18,400 for 2024-25. The school has been accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges since 1968 and is licensed by the New York State Education Department.
